Spread out over Spitsbergen we find small cabins. Two beds, a table, a stove and some wood. But often at really nice places, like this one: Texas Bar in Liefdefjord. These cabins are overnight huts used by trappers in the first half of the 20th century. They had a main station, with a large building and several smaller cabins they could use to go to areas that were further away. Must have been a hard life, but one with awesome views…
Why the place is called Texas Bar? I don’t know, not because of the alcohol in the cabin, that’s for sure. The official book on the place names of Svalbard only gives the hint that it’s named after a state in the US, I couldn’t have thought of that myself…
