Fast-flowing water bird

Dipper in the Netherlands

Yesterday I went with a friend of mine to the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen (a dune reserve in the western part of the Netherlands). Here there are some streams for producing drinking water, not really fast flowing ones, but still with clear water and running a little. This winter at least two White-throated Dippers decided to spent the winter there. Not shy at all they have been photographed a lot over the past months already. I haven’t seen much movies of these birds yet, something I changed yesterday. In this movie you see it searching for food, sometimes underneath some leaves and swimming away. Unfortunately no underwater footage…. It is really fascinating to see these birds diving under water, walking up stream a little and popping up somewhere else again.
