This is no penguin!

Antarctic Shag

Somehow many people think that all the black and white birds they see on Antarctica are penguins… Until they suddenly one take off and fly away… It turns out that there is at least one black and white bird that is not a penguin: the Antarctic Shag. When you have a closer look, you see the longer neck and more slender body. Even closer the blue eye and yellow patch on the bill is noticed. These birds breed a bit more on rocky parts as penguins do (they can of course fly to parts that are out of reach for penguins). But indeed, from a distance they look quite similar to penguins.
