At the beach
Now there is one polar subject I just can’t get into my mind: geology. Everything that has to do with stones is very interesting when somebody explains it to me, it just doesn’t stick with me. There are only very few stony stories that I can remember and explain to the guests in the field. This story however, even I can remember 🙂
The ripples on this stone are very similar to the ripples you find sometimes at the beach in the sand. Well, they are the same. Apparently those ripples got covered by sediment without disturbing them and over the many millions of years they were turned into stone and came back to the surface. It’s nice to see those very old remains suddenly at your feet during an Arctic walk.
