Lightning bolt over Groningen

It’s hot, very hot. Since today we officially have a heat wave in the Netherlands. Definitely not my type of weather, I prefer the lower temperatures of the Arctic. Fortunately I’ll be flying up north to Spitsbergen to start my Arctic season.

With this hot weather there is also an increased chance on thunderstorms. Two days ago we had a really nice one. I never tried capturing lightning bolts before, but thought to give it a try this time. Using the bulb-mode and a remote control, I just aimed at a part of the sky and hoped for a bolt to appear in the image. Many shots just had clear sky, but few had some nice ones, like the image above. The only thing that was missing, was a nice foreground. Next time I should either move to a new apartment, or get a car and go to a different place so I can include a bit of scenery.
