Stalking Seals

Polar Bear

The scientific name for Polar Bear is Ursus maritimus. This translates to „Sea Bear”. An apt name, as Polar Bears prefer to spent most of their life at sea. Preferably on top of a frozen sea, the pack ice, as that’s where their food is. Seals haul out on the ice, making them vulnerable for predation by bears. If there is not enough ice, they are also very good swimmers, something they can do for days. However, eventually they need ice or land to rest. This bear was swimming between ice floes, searching for seals. After a while he gave up, no seals that were near enough to surprise.
