Brown Winter Damsel

Today I definitely said goodbye to winter (at least in the Netherlands) and said hello to spring. In a small pond I found my first damselflies of the season, a Brown Winter Damsel. These damsels emerged last summer, spent the winter hanging somewhere and now enjoy the nice spring weather. I wasn’t really dressed for photography, so I took off my pants, shoes and socks, headed into the water and took a few pictures. They’re probably not the best damselfly pictures I ever took, but for me it means dragonfly season is open! Let it be a good season!

  1. A welcome find! I don’t believe I have ever seen one so well camouflaged.
