Barn Swallow in flight

Ha, finally spring has arrived!! Nice weather, sunshine, warm, summer birds returning and butterflies flying around. Great! To make sure I would still have something to complain about, have they turned up the wind a little.. But well, still nice to be outside. After trying to photograph Willow Warblers and Blackcaps (who stayed high in the treetops) I settled at a place with many Barn Swallows flying around. Barn Swallows in flight… yeah right, speaking about something easy… These birds are magnificent flyers, very fast (especially with the wind in their backs) and are able to turn at any time… This makes it very hard to only find them in the viewfinder. And if you manage to find one, you have to focus before he makes one of those turns….

You can imagine I came back with a lot of empty sky pictures, or pictures with just a wingtip in the frame. And of course many out of focus shots. However, few were more or less in focus. Like this picture, of a Barn Swallow scratching its head in mid-air.
