Marco, the Arctic Skua

Like the previous years there there’s an Arctic Skua residing on the campsite. He’s very tame, probably due to the food he sometimes gets from camping guests. This year there are two different individuals. One with broken tail feathers, one with intact tail feathers. A little further their nest. As tame as they are on the campsite, close to their chick they become really aggressive, as Arctic Skua’s can be. Is you come too close, they will come over and start attacking you, trying to hit you with their legs on the head.

The nice thing is, when they fly over the nearby laguna, the Arctic Terns try to do the same with them, as the skuas come too close to their nest. The only difference is that the terns try to pick them in the head with the bill.

  1. Erg mooi hoor. Zo vlak voor de lens.

  2. Leuk zo met de groothoek krijg je die mooie achtergrond er fijn op.
