Tonight at 00:21 the sun crosses the equator, the official astronomical starting point of spring. Biologically there are several other points that indicate the start of spring. The first flowers, the first butterflies or dragonflies or the return of certain birds from their winter quarters in Africa. Later the birds start breeding and get their chicks and other insects and flowers appear. In this series I’ll try to show you those signs of spring.
In this first episode I try to find the first signs of spring, displaying Great Crested Grebes, White Storks on their nest and one of the first butterflies, the Small Tortoiseshell, feeding on one of the first flowers, the Coldfoot.[vimeo http://vimeo.com/21266569 w=540]
